Tommy's Burger Joint

First morning in Iceland did not go quite as planned (full report is forthcoming at the end of the day). But while waiting for our Airbnb checkin, we stopped by a burger place called Tommy's Burger Joint located not too far from where we are staying on the outskirts of Reykjavik.

Aside from food prices, which are slightly better than in some other places we have seen thus far, but still are quite high, this place is actually quite legit.  It is a joint, no doubt about it.  There are guitars and outfits of local rock stars on the back wall. There is a hodge-podge of various signage and posters - selected with a lack of care that sort of lends the place authenticity. Our landlady claims that there is an actual Tommy and that he is quite a character.

The place is tucked in a corner of  an Iceland's version of a strip mall on a frontage road along a highway next to some industrial zones.

The slightly embarrassing part about our experience there was the fact that the cashier wound up speaking perfect Russian - something we realized only about two minutes into placing the order, so she wound up being exposed to some family conversations that might have gone differently had we known that we can be understood here.  A valuable lesson to us.
